Who books the video call?
Some prisons make the person inside book. Some let the family book. Which app, and how long until it is accepted.
Not a PIN call
A video call is a visit on a phone or tablet. It is not a PIN call, and it does not use PIN credit. You already have to be on their visitor list.
Which app
England and Wales use Prison Video or Purple Visits. Which app is local. Public-sector prisons use Prison Video, according to the Prisoners’ Families Helpline. The prison’s own GOV.UK page wins when it names one.
Who books it
Some prisons make the person inside book. Some let the family book. This note cannot tell you which until you open that prison.
ID, then the prison’s wait
You will need photo ID. Prison Video and Purple Visits both ask for a passport or driving licence. Prison Video says the face photo and ID are usually approved within 2 working days. The prison’s own wait after that is separate.
Look up this prison
Search the prison in Which video app? for the app, the ID, and the clocks. If you know how long the first accepted call took, add it.
